Celebrating the Past -- Looking to the Future
Part III of III
Has this country changed? It has. Like a misbehaving, unruly youth, including the abuse of authority by Federal and Superior Court Judges of states and the highest courts in the land, at our nation’s Capital. What can we do about it? Act responsibly for the well-being of our country, as well as pray for many proud birthdays ahead.
Lift Up Your Hearts
Let us pray: O Lord, please send us good people of wisdom to govern our nation, people who will put faith in Your divine providence before all else. Send us God-fearing, courageous leaders having the moral strength and conviction to preserve a nation that its eminent founders, you’re your divine guidance, confidently proclaimed: “In God We Trust.”
Please, Father, teach us once again, so we will all understand the consequence of how “a house divided will not stand.” Clearly, the entire nation is divided on issues of having no values, to moral values in decline; Life and death, lust and passion. Leaders everywhere (including other countries because we now export our godlessness) have been and are tilting the scales against ageless values and the majority of “We the People.”
If we continue to turn our backs on You, O Lord, we should have learned from ancient times that Your wrath is as great as Your patience. You blessed us to be a great nation, provided abundantly, helped us defend ourselves with great power. Now we have become arrogant, falsely confident; we replaced You with vanity and the father of lies. O God, lead us back to You. Heal our Faith. Remove from us our false pride. Help us to wisely replace irresponsible, faithless, greedy leaders with God-fearing, honorable people. Make us aware that without You we are nothing. Amen.
God Helps Those Who Help Themselves
Meanwhile, as we place our future faith in the Father, let us try to heal ourselves as well. All of us can look at the ballot box as an exercise in social responsibility. Vote with deliberate concern and care. Be not swayed by empty words. Demand proof for what you seek as a voter – for the benefit of our country.
America now desperately needs the “Supreme Judge of the world.” May He find us asking: “God, we humbly ask You to heal and continue to bless America – from sea to shining sea. May your Church’s pulpits flame once again with righteousness as discovered by de Toqueville over 150 years ago. Please help those elected to our Nation’s Capital to awaken from oblivion to the fact that ‘in no other place in the United States are there so many, and such varied official evidences of deep and abiding faith in You on the part of Government as there are in Washington…, ”placed there by their more venerable, faithful predecessors. Amen.”
Inasmuch as our greatest leaders have shown no doubt about God’s proper place in the American birthright, can we – in our day – (continue to) dare do less?
Happy 232nd Birthday America!
